Puppet Pals2

Hi everyone!

I am going to introduce you an application used for digital storytelling. Unfortunately, its name is Puppet Pals and it is only available for IOS and you must purchase this application in order to use its full version.

The application Puppet Pals 2 is designed to be an educational tool for ESL learning. Students are engaged with acting out historical events and practicing language skills with the help of this application.

When you open the application, you will see the following picture.

If you enter the code, you can install those features as you like.

Firstly, you need to choose a location (background) for your short video. You can find a variety of backgrounds here.

The second step which you need to do is to create characters. You can make the characters as to your taste, also mix and match heads and bodies at random. You add your combination to the scene by clicking the green check. This is free. But, if you want to add our images, we have to purchase this application.

This application also presents you different music in order to insert your video.

I chose this background and character. I am inspired from Red Kit cartoon.

The blue buttons allow you change the background, music, characters and items like horse, bus etc. (But, only horse and car are free.) You record the voice by using the red bottom.

Characters are not stable, you can move them as you like.

If you tap the characters when you record, they move their mouth as if they were speaking.The sticks on the bottom-right corner of the picture show you volume of your voice.

When your project is finished, you can share it via e-mail, Facebook, or your blog.

Students (for primary/secondary school) should be supposed to prepare a cartoon by using this application. You can ask them to make a story about it after you teach the subject.Thus, they reinforce that subject by enjoying.

DS Project

      Hi everybody!
         
         This week we created a digital storytelling project. In this project I worked with Merve Ertan and Ece Güneş. This project is more enjoyable than the previous ones for me. We created a story which tells the adventure of three girls in the forest. To be honest, our story may not perfect because this is the first time we have used the dijital story.
         We used Go Animate website. It is generally a good website for DS but we had some difficulties.For egzample, we could not arrange our speaking according to the characters' movement and also we could not share the story directly. However, we had a lot of opportunities to create different  characters and form background being in accordance with that concept. It was a entertaining experience for me. Especially, I enjoyed so much when we were recording it and  watching. You can watch it here.

                This week, our topic is to introduce a website for learning and practicing English.

                There is only one person who works on this website. Her name is Barbara, she lives in Poland, and she is the creator and owner of anglomaniacy.pl.She set up this website in 2005 to help her very young pupils with their English.

                "Anglomaniacy.pl" is a site for kids who are learning English as a foreign or second language. Young ESL students will find here lots of online activities and hundreds of printable worksheets that can help them with their English.This is also a resource site for parents and teachers of young ESL learners. They offer tons of free, ready-to-print teaching materials including flashcards, quizzes, games, song lyrics as well as a big collection of useful links to other ESL/EFL websites.

            The website consists of 8 sections.These are respectively vocabulary, grammar, expressions, songs, ABC animals,holidays and printables.

            The Vocabulary section contains free online activities that introduce young learners to basic English vocabulary grouped into 36 topics, reflecting kids' interests.  

 Each topic-unit contains materials to introduce, practise and revise new vocabulary.Select a category, then learn and practise new words with their online and printable activities.

     Grammar section contains online lessons, activities and tests plus printable worksheets that can help children develop their grammar skills. 

 The activities, suitable for beginners and young

learners, focus on the main grammatical topics

taught on elementary English courses. 

 The material is organised in grammatical categories: Nouns and Verbs. Each category is divided into relevant units. Each unit focuses on a particular grammatical area and has the same format consisting of four parts:

1. LEARN: online presentations of grammatical structures through simple examples and colourful illustrations

2. PRACTISE: short and easy exercises which help learners practise the grammar points

3 TEST YOURSELF: animated quizzes which allow pupils to check their understanding of the grammar lessons in a fun way

   The expression section incudes both online and printable materials that can help kids learn and practice basic phrases used in simple communication.There is a simple picture story with a short dialogue. The vocabulary is presented through the Wordies in Space series.

 Young learners can build vocabulary and develop their reading skills, while at the same time broading their knowledge of animals in the ABC animals section. They learn amazing facts.

  











   In the holiday section. You can find the examples about the special days, such as easter, valentine’s days etc. You can check them here.

  The last section is printables. A lot of materials is offered to us about basic English grammar and vocabulary.

 To be honest ,I like this website very much.I think it is very attractive for children because it is much colourful and variable.There are a lot of opportunities for both children and parents/teachers.Teachers should use this website definitely.With the help of this site,  while children learn, they enjoy, and  they are more willing to learn.Also, teachers can find different examples for the students, thus they make the learning amusing and affective. After  teachers teach the subject, they can make the learning permanent by performing practices on this website.As a teacher,  we should not keep to only the traditional system, we use different techniques. But the examples in the garammar are a bit little. Students can not learn the subject if they stick to only that page. So, teacher must lead the student to use the website after they school the subject.

Wiki Project: The Comedy Of Errors

  Hello again!

      In this project, we are expected to create a wiki page about a book that I recommend you to read. I selected one of my favorite books: The Comedy of Errors. To be honest, I don’t like reading a book so much, so I had difficulty in this project.Also, as I was forming 'wiki', my internet connecting was lost and all of things I wrote were deleted.But I didn't give up.:) 
      I summarized the plot by myself but  while I was telling about characters' features , I benefited from some websites. Wiki is certainly one of the useful tools providing us the opportunity to reach the information we need. You can create your wiki page on any topic you want, and can make the others benefit from that information you share. In my future teaching, I hope that I can use it appropriately, by this means my students share their opinions freely and knowledge with others.Also, I think that it improves the students' writing proficiency in the target language.

Our Podcast Project

Hello Everybody! I have come again. We had a podcast experience with Fatma Merve. We created a sound rich story and created a podcast of this story. Sometimes I told the story, sometimes FatmaMerve did. Although we had some difficulties such as the other voices around us, we managed to create it; I hope you’ll enjoy it!

It is a beneficial project for EFL students because it helps us to develop our ability to listen and our pronunciation because we can listen and hear pronunciations of the words again and again. Also, it makes the activity more amazing. It is both educational and funny.
